Zagorze Śląskie. The 14-year-old drowned in the lake

A 14-year-old boy died after falling into a lake in Zagórze Śląskie (Lower Silesian Voivodeship). The child’s body was pulled out of the water, but despite the efforts of rescuers, his life could not be saved.

According to the fire brigade, the 14-year-old was at the lake with four friends. They were in a place where they shouldn’t bathe. Firefighters received a report of a boy falling into the lake around 11 a.m. Thursday.

– A 14-year-old boy fell into the lake in a place where he should not be swimming. He was there together with a group of friends – reports Tomasz Kwiatkowski from the PSP in Wałbrzych.

Kwiatkowski added that the first to arrive were firefighters from the OSP in Zagórze, followed by firefighters from the PSP in Wałbrzych and a water and diving group from Legnica and Wrocław. – Actions from the beginning consisted of searching the shores, checking from the boat and trying to dive using fins, mask and snorkel – explains the firefighter.

The Volunteer Water Rescue Service also arrived at the scene. Divers went underwater in search of the 14-year-old.

Resuscitation operation

The boy’s body was brought to the surface at 12:55. A resuscitation operation was carried out, which was interrupted when the rescuers were absolutely sure that the life of the 14-year-old could not be saved. The teenager was underwater for over an hour and a half.

As pointed out by Tomasz Straszewski from WOPR Wałbrzych, the beach where the tragedy occurred was unguarded. Currently, the police and the prosecutor are working on the scene.
