“The coming year 2023 was full of miracles. The last of them were the words from the President’s speech that the constitution must be defended. New Year’s Eve of dreams,” wrote Prime Minister Donald Tusk, commenting on Andrzej Duda’s New Year’s speech. In his speech, the president said, among other things, that he would “never agree to violate the constitution.”

President Andrzej Duda delivered on Sunday, the last day of 2023, New Year’s message. He said, among other things, that “in a democracy, the constitution, the rule of law and good political customs must be respected,” and “those in power can reform the public media, but it must be done in accordance with the law.” – I have always been open to such discussions regarding legal changes. However, from my side there will never be consent to breaking the constitution. And this is unfortunately the situation we are currently dealing with, he added.

According to the president, “further announcements of making important decisions through parliamentary resolutions raise serious concern.” Duda said he would oppose such actions “with all his might, in accordance with his constitutional powers.” – That is why I am calling on the government coalition to start observing the principles of a democratic state of law and respect citizens regardless of their political views – he said.
