A 66-year-old man who collapsed in the water at the municipal swimming pool in Augustów (Podlaskie Voivodeship) is dead. Three lifeguards rushed to help the man. However, neither they nor later medics managed to save the man. The prosecutor’s office is handling the case.
This tragedy took place on Sunday (January 22) around 4.30 pm at the municipal swimming pool run by the Sports and Recreation Center in Augustów.
– A 66-year-old resident of the city first used the sauna and then entered the sports pool. At one point he fainted. Three lifeguards rushed to help. One pulled the man out of the water, and two started resuscitation – says the director of the center, Michał Paruch.
Rescuers resuscitated the 66-year-old for about 10 minutes, i.e. until the ambulance arrived and the action was taken over by medics. The man could not be saved.
Prosecutor: An autopsy is to be carried out on Tuesday
The police and the prosecutor arrived at the scene. Other customers of the swimming pool were asked to leave for the duration of the activities.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Then we will know the preliminary causes of death. For the time being, we have ruled out the involvement of third parties – says Krzysztof Siemienowicz, Deputy District Prosecutor in Augustów.
