According to the store employees, the woman took bananas and avocados from the store shelves and packed them into three bags, passing them off as apples at the cash register. She had a total of 30 avocados and over three kilograms of bananas in her bags.
The officer on duty at the Bielany police station received information that a fraud had occurred at the self-service checkout in one of the stores on Conrada Street.
– The woman approached the self-service checkout and wanted to pay for the goods herself. She put the bags on the scale one by one and loaded them each time as apples. The 53-year-old was apparently unaware that her actions were being closely watched by surveillance cameras and a security guard – conveys in the message sub-inspector Elwira Kozłowska from the capital police.
The difference between the bill she was supposed to pay and the one the client paid was over PLN 215.
Allegation of fraud
A 53-year-old woman was detained and placed in police custody. Police officers from the department combating economic crime and corruption have already brought charges against her. If she is found guilty of fraud, she may face six months to eight years in prison.
The proceedings in this case are supervised by the Warsaw Żoliborz District Prosecutor's Office.
