Six people were killed in a knife attack at a kindergarten in southern China’s Guangdong province on Monday. Among the dead are three children, one educator and two parents, local authorities reported to AFP.
Police said a 25-year-old suspect of the “deliberate attack” named Wu has been detained and the investigation is ongoing. The incident happened at 7.40 local time (1.40 in Poland).
Knife attacks in China
Violent crime is relatively uncommon in China, but there have been a number of knife attacks across the country in recent years, including at schools and kindergartens.
In August 2022, a knife-wielding attacker attacked a kindergarten in southeastern Jianxi province, killing three and injuring six. In April 2021, two children were killed and 16 injured in a knife attack in Beiliu, Guangxi Chuang Autonomous Region. In October 2018, fourteen children were injured in a similar attack at a kindergarten in Chongqing, southwest China.
