Collections in Ukraine. A record amount on the GoFundMe platform

Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the popular crowdfunding platform GoFundMe has raised £225 million to help the country under attack. This is the highest amount in the history of this platform allocated by donors for a single purpose.

“The Independent” quotes a representative of GoFundMe, who confirms that the record amount is one of the largest “surges of generosity” ever observed on this crowdfunding platform (crowdfunding, otherwise social financing – ed.). Citing the PA news agency, he writes that since February 24, 2022, i.e. since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Ukraine and its citizens, as much as 225 million pounds were collected on the popular American platform. This is the equivalent of approximately PLN 1.2 billion.

Record sum of rebounds to Ukraine from all over the world

The donors came from all over the world and they were both individual payments and large-scale actions. “The Independent” lists several initiatives for which money was collected, such as the transport of necessary articles to the Polish-Ukrainian border or the delivery of medicines to a young Ukrainian woman suffering from diabetes.

“The response we’ve seen from around the world in the days and weeks that followed the invasion has been extraordinary,” GoFundMe vice president of international affairs John Coventry said. “The outpouring of generosity to the people of Ukraine that followed the invasion was one of the greatest we’ve ever seen on GoFundMe, and it has continued for the last 12 months,” he added.

Aid from Poland

Many organizations, both Polish and foreign, have been involved in helping Ukraine and its citizens. In Poland, according to data from the Central Statistical Office, only in the first quarter of 2022, 69.9 percent. households helped the residents of Ukraine, both those in our country and those who stayed on the territory of Ukraine. In the second quarter, it was 53.3 percent. farms. Most often, Poles helped by donating material gifts and financial assistance. They also raised funds for armament of the Ukrainian army.
