Dnieper, Ukraine. Rescuers search the ruins of the block of flats. People are still trapped under the rubble

A search operation has been carried out in the ruins of a block of flats in the Dnieper, destroyed as a result of Russian shelling, for nearly three days. Local Ukrainian authorities said rescuers were looking for 25 people. So far, 40 people have been confirmed dead, and many of the injured are still in hospitals.

Rescuers are still looking for 25 people in the rubble of a block of flats in Dnieper, the head of the regional government, Valentyn Reznichenko, wrote on Telegram on Tuesday. He explained that among the 79 injured there are 16 children.

According to the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, more than 200 apartments were destroyed in the shelling. – The whole house (residents who survived – ed.) was practically resettled. A lot of places have been prepared in the city and the region to accommodate all families, said the deputy head of the presidential office, Kyrylo Tymoshenko. He added that work in the ruins of the building will continue until all the bodies are found, which could take several days.

At least 40 people were killed in a nine-storey block of flats fired on Saturday by a Russian anti-ship missile. The shell completely destroyed one of the verticals of the building with 79 apartments, where over 200 people are officially registered. The shelling occurred over the weekend when many residents were at home. 39 people have been rescued, 28 are in hospital, and 10 of them are in a serious condition.
