Heavy rains hit Ecuador. Swollen rivers and mudslides caused extensive damage across the country. The situation is most difficult in the central regions, where floods have destroyed roads, villages and bridges – one when cars were driving on it. In one canton, the disaster affected over 100 families.

Heavy rains hit Ecuador. According to local media, swollen rivers burst their banks, washing away houses and roads. The greatest damage was recorded in the central provinces.

A year after the incredible tragedy

The Alausi canton in Chimborazo province was particularly hard hit, with devastating floods. On Sunday, a landslide occurred there, burying 56 houses, blocking access roads to some towns and damaging the energy infrastructure. One person was injured, and according to local authorities, more than 100 families were affected.

Alausi residents fear that difficult weather conditions will lead to a tragedy similar to the one that happened a year ago. In March 2023, a gigantic landslide occurred there, resulting in the death of 75 people.

A dangerous accident occurred in the province of Canar. One of the bridges was washed away on Sunday by the rising waters of the river, which broke it in half. At the time of the collapse, two cars were moving on it and slid down the damaged structure. The Ecuavisa website reported that one person was injured.
