On Tuesday, there was a tragic accident in the Swedish-speaking commune of Kauniainen. A 10-year-old child returning from school died under the wheels of a tractor with a snowplow – local police reported. According to investigators, the snowblower operator himself called the emergency center. – This is quite a shock for us, said the chairman of the local authorities, Christoffer Masar. On Wednesday, state flags will be lowered to half-mast as a sign of mourning in the commune. The attack of winter led to traffic paralysis in southern Finland. In Helsinki, due to the freezing of traction and switches, tram traffic was completely suspended, and in Turku most buses stopped. There were many accidents and collisions on the roads. The services appealed to drivers who had previously changed to summer tires not to go on the road under any circumstances.
