“Five decades of artistic work”. Professor Antoni Fałat awarded for services to the capital

On Friday, the opening of the exhibition “Antoni Fałat. Paintings from 1975-2017” took place at the Katarzyna Napiórkowska Art Gallery in the capital. Professor Antoni Fałat was awarded the Badge of Honor for Merit to Warsaw.

Professor Fałat comes from a family with artistic traditions, his ancestor is the famous landscape painter, Julian. After graduating from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts under the supervision of Aleksander Kobzdej, Antoni Fałat co-founded the painting groups “For Improvement” and “Aut Pictura Aut Nihil”, his works can be found, among others, in the National Museum in Warsaw, Gdańsk and Kraków, were shown at exhibitions at the UN headquarters in Geneva and the European Parliament in Brussels.

He has been associated with Warsaw since birth

During the Friday opening of the exhibition “Antoni Fałat. Paintings from 1975-2017” at the Katarzyna Napiórkowska Art Gallery in Warsaw, the artist was awarded the Badge of Honor for Merit to Warsaw for his activities for the city.

“The honored person is Antoni Fałat, a graphic painter and illustrator; one of the representatives of the new figuration movement that appeared in art after World War II, associated with Warsaw from birth. It was here that he graduated with honors from the Academy of Fine Arts, and then at the turn of the 1960s In the 1970s, he founded the artistic group “Aut” and also in this city, in the early 1990s, he established and ran the European Academy of Art for many years – recalled in a letter from the City Council, read during the opening.

Five decades of artistic work

The artist was thanked “for five decades of artistic work, and especially for the fact that you have always been an ambassador of Warsaw through your works, shown at exhibitions in Poland and other countries.” His daughters received the award on behalf of the artist.

Fałat, it was written in the exhibition description, has been “consistently implementing a very unique and distinct artistic vision in his work for decades.” He is at the same time “an attentive witness and sensitive commentator of the changes in the modern world,” it was noted. In his painting, he proves – we read – “an attitude full of empathy and attentiveness towards Poland's current affairs and historical heritage.”

In 1997, the artist was awarded the Medal of the National Education Commission, he is also the winner of the Gold Medal at the 3rd Zachęta Fine Arts Festival and the Bielska Jesień Gold Medal. He was also awarded the Gloria Artis Gold Medal.

The exhibition “Antoni Fałat. Paintings from 1975-2017” at the Katarzyna Napiórkowska Art Gallery in Warsaw will be open until May 17.
