Today is trading Sunday. The Left presented candidates for the European Parliament. PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński spoke at his party's convention in Warsaw. His party also registered candidates from district number 13, i.e. the West Pomeranian and Lubusz voivodeships. Here are five things to know on Sunday, April 28.

1. PiS convention and first candidates

Jarosław Kaczyński, at the PiS convention in Warsaw regarding the upcoming elections to the European Parliament, spoke, among other things, about – in his opinion – threats related to the European Green Deal, the migration pact, proposed changes to treaties and the euro currency. He said that his party's candidate for EU commissioner would be Jacek Saryusz-Wolski.

PiS also registered candidates for the European Parliament from constituency number 13, i.e. the West Pomeranian and Lubusz voivodeships. MEP Joachim Brudziński took first place, Elżbieta Rafalska took second place, Małgorzata Golińska was third, Jerzy Materna was fourth, and Artur Szałabawka was fifth.

3. Trading Sunday

The possibility of opening larger stores on the last Sunday in April is one of the exceptions included in the regulations limiting the activities of commercial establishments. Due to the upcoming May Day holiday, some food markets will be open longer on Sunday. Chains encourage you to check the opening hours of individual branches on their websites, as their working hours may vary. Some stores will be open even until 22.

The next trading Sundays fall this year: June 30, August 25, December 15 and December 22.

4. Tornadoes hit Nebraska and Iowa

Tornadoes swept through the US states of Nebraska and Iowa on Friday. Many houses were damaged and there were reports of minor injuries. The disaster also caused power outages. Alarm sirens warned of the threat.

5. A ticking bomb in Kyrgyzstan

In Kyrgyzstan, time is running out to avoid a catastrophe whose scale may be as large as the explosion of the Chernobyl power plant. For decades, the Soviets extracted uranium from local mines, dumped the waste around the city, and then the problem fell on the local authorities. Dams that hold radioactive mud at bay could burst if an earthquake hits the area. Then radioactive waste will flood the basin, where 16 million people live.
