Stefan W.’s defense attorney: the punishment is too severe

– As a defense attorney, I have a duty to take care of the client’s interests. In the defense’s opinion, the punishment is too severe, taking into account not the event itself, but the mental state of the accused. It should be remembered that he was in a state of limited sanity, which was confirmed in the not yet final judgment of the District Court, said Marcin Kminkowski, the defendant’s defense attorney, in an interview with PAP.

– If it was determined that we were dealing with a perpetrator acting under limited sanity, the court had the opportunity to apply extraordinary leniency. However, despite the fact that it had the opportunity to do so, the court imposed the strictest possible penalty, the lawyer added.

In January 2019, during a WOŚP concert, Stefan W., then 27, ran onto the stage with a knife and fatally wounded the president of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz.
