Dust from the Sahara drifted over southern Greece. He caused the sky to “burn” over Corinth on Tuesday. In Crete, thermometers showed over 30 degrees Celsius in places.
On Tuesday, the sky over Corinth, a port city, turned orange and looked as if it was “on fire.” This was due to Saharan dust that reached southern Greece.
On Tuesday, temperatures in some parts of Crete exceeded 30 degrees Celsius.
Dust from the Sahara flowed into Greece
According to Greek meteorologists, the peak of the Saharan dust inflow will occur on Wednesday at noon and in the afternoon. Dirty rainfall is also forecast that day, mainly in the north and west of the country. Dirty rain is precipitation that is a combination of precipitation and dust blown by the wind from the Sahara. This dust settles on cars, roads or buildings and takes on a golden-rust color.
Dust has potentially negative health effects. Greek authorities recommend increased caution, especially to people struggling with respiratory problems.
The Hellenic Fire Service reported that a total of 25 fires broke out in the country in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested on the island of Paros on suspicion of accidentally starting a bush fire on Monday.
