Holding a temporary residence permit in Germany Ukrainians do not need to have a valid Ukrainian passport to stay in the country – European Pravda reports, citing information from Deutsche Welle. He was to appeal to the local authorities Berlin for an inquiry on this matter. The publication indicates that issues related to the stay of foreigners in Germany include: competences of regional authorities.

The response stated that the right to reside in Germany stays unchanged, despite the decision of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to suspend consular services for local men of military age who are abroad.

In a situation where the Ukrainian embassy or consulate refuses to issue or renew a passport of a Ukrainian citizen because he has not completed military service, the Berlin migration office may issue him a travel document for traveling abroad instead of a passport.

Added that this is only possible in exceptional cases. The regulations regarding the stay of foreigners in Germany allow the immigration authorities to issue documents replacing German ones when foreigners can demonstrate important reason.

This means that in connection with the decision Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the limitation of consular services for men of mobilization age, it will have no effect on their temporary protection status.
