An approximately 200-meter section of the ground Herbowa Street in Łódź until recently resembled a lunar landscape, now the holes have been patched with asphalt. Residents – who had previously asked the Roads and Transport Authority many times to renovate the road – rubbed their eyes in amazement. Road workers claim that this is only an ad hoc action and the street will be repaired in the spring.

– I was returning home and rubbing my eyes in amazement, because I also noticed steaming hot patches that were laid on a completely wet, snow-covered dirt road – describes Mr. Paweł, who took photos and published them on one of the social networks. He adds: – This is money thrown down the drain. It won’t last even two weeks, especially now that we have negative temperatures at night, positive temperatures during the day, it’s all starting to fall apart.

The inhabitants of Herbowa Street had previously asked the Road and Transport Authority to lay asphalt on a 200-meter section of the street. – We have repeatedly asked the Roads and Transport Authority when the road will get a new surface. The answers were that no renovation was planned, just an ad-hoc seasonal equation that would bring the road back to its lunar state after about three weeks. Neither a grader nor patching these holes with asphalt will help here. A new asphalt overlay should be built on these 200 meters – believes a resident of Łódź.

The spokesman for the Road and Transport Authority in Łódź, Tomasz Andrzejewski, referred to the situation. – This part of Herbowa Street is a dirt road. During the works, the contractor supplemented the unevenness on the ground part to remedy the problems reported by the residents on an ad hoc basis. Unfortunately, with the current weather, leveling the road is not possible and would have the opposite effect in real terms. The unevenness has been temporarily filled with a mineral-bitumen mixture to facilitate the passage. However, when the weather stabilizes, it will be possible to carry out appropriate repairs – said the spokesman of the Łódź ZDiT in a statement sent to us.
