MEP Łukasz Kohut will run from the Civic Coalition lists in the upcoming European Parliament elections. The politician leaves the New Left due to an internal dispute regarding the preparation of the list before the European elections.

“The decision regarding the final shape of the Left lists has not been made yet, but I do not like such internal war, especially after my five years in the European Parliament. Moreover, there is also the issue of the Razem party, which is extremely left-wing, and I do not like its program. I thought it was more reasonable – to start from the KO list,” Kohut said.

He added that he would be third on the KO list for the European Parliament in the Silesian Voivodeship. The leader of this list will be Borys Budka, who currently heads the Ministry of State Assets.

The dispute within the left-wing coalition, which was fought by politicians from its various factions, included: in social media, concerns places on the list for the European Parliament in the Silesian Voivodeship. The regional structures of the New Left wanted Kohut, who won an MEP here in 2019, to be its leader. However, the first place is to be awarded to the candidate nominated by the Razem party.

“I believe that it is the inhabitants of the Silesian Voivodeship, not the Warsaw authorities, who should decide which representatives they want to have in the European Parliament,” Kohut wrote in a statement.

In 2019, Kohut received 48,783 votes in the Silesian Voivodeship, and the entire Wiosna committee, from which he ran, received a total of 93,120 votes.
