Freezing rain paralyzed traffic in St. Louis, Missouri. On Sunday evening, there was a collision on one of the state roads, in which up to 30 cars could have been involved.

Winter weather caused difficulties on roads in the central part of the United States. Snow and freezing rain were reported in Missouri overnight Sunday into Monday, paralyzing roads in one of the region’s largest cities, St. Louis.

Up to 30 cars

The most serious accident occurred on Sunday evening on Interstate 64. According to local media, 20 to 30 cars collided on the slippery surface, and the road was temporarily closed. Although the scale of the collision was huge, no one was seriously injured and the highway is now passable.

On Sunday evening, a fatal accident took place in the vicinity of the city – a woman lost control of her car on a slippery surface and died after colliding with another car. In another part of town, a man was severely hit by a car on the side of Interstate 270.

“It’s like a sheet of ice,” said one St. Louis on Monday morning.

The ice can come back

According to the US National Weather Service branch in St. Louis, snow and freezing rain are expected Monday evening, primarily in southern Missouri. In places around St. Louis, however, ice may still be present. Meteorologists predict that the next few days will bring dry but cool weather to the residents of the state.
