Poland has a chance to receive EU funds for the construction of the Central Communication Port. The European Parliament voted in support of the updated list of strategic infrastructure projects in the European Union, which also included the CPK.
Presence on the list opens the way to obtaining EU funds for the project.
The regulation was adopted with 565 votes in favor, 37 votes against and 29 abstentions. Once approved by the Council, the rules will enter into force 20 days after publication in the Official Journal.
Strategic infrastructure projects in the European Union
The list was created in 2013 by the European Commission in cooperation with Member States. It is updated after more than 10 years. Projects there include cross-border roads, railways, bridges and tunnels.
The list includes, among others: Rail Baltica, connecting Helsinki and Warsaw, a tunnel connecting Austria and Italy, and the Lisbon-Madrid high-speed rail line.
Projects related to Russia and Belarus suspended
Under the new regulations, transport infrastructure projects with Russia and Belarus will be suspended, and connections with Ukraine and Moldova will be strengthened.
MEPs urged EU governments to take into account military needs (weight or volume of military transport) when building or upgrading infrastructure overlapping military transport networks to ensure the smooth transfer of troops and equipment.
