London welcomed the New Year with a 12-minute fireworks and drone display. According to the mayor of the British capital, Sadiq Khan, it was the biggest fireworks show in Europe. As noted by the BBC, this is the first New Year’s Eve since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic when residents of the city gathered in such large numbers on the streets. On New Year’s Eve, Londoners also honored the memory of Queen Elizabeth II, who died last year.
“London paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We honor her memory and celebrate her legacy. As we look ahead to 2023, we wish King Charles much success. God Save The King,” Sadiq Khan tweeted.
