A heap of waste stored on the premises of a recycling company in Rawicz in the Greater Poland Voivodeship was on fire. About 150 firefighters worked on site. There are no reports of any injuries. The mayor of Rawicz appealed to residents to close their windows.
The services received information about a fire in a waste heap measuring 30 by 30 meters on the premises of a recycling company in Rawicz on Thursday night. According to Krzysztof Skrzypczak, press officer of the State Fire Service in this city, the fire spread very quickly.
– Firefighters immediately started extinguishing the fire. The fire has been brought under control and the flames are no longer visible. However, there is a lot of smoke – said Skrzypczak.
Fire at the landfill in Rawicz
After 6 a.m., in an interview with TVN24, Skrzypczak said that the situation was “relatively under control.” – We will be 100% sure when we create a corridor between the fallout that was covered by the fire and the remaining part of the landfill, and we confirm that there are no sources of fire there – he said. When asked about the area covered by the fire, the press officer replied that the first fire brigade commander who appeared on the spot reported that the fire covered approximately one thousand square meters. – Ultimately, we estimate that we stopped the fire on an area of approximately 2.5 thousand square meters – replied Skrzypczak.
About 150 firefighters fought the fire
48 fire vehicles took part in the action, a total of about 150 firefighters, as well as drones with thermal imaging, were dispatched to fight the fire. – We will have to dismantle the heap and bring the waste to another place – said Skrzypczak.
The officer confirmed that there was no information about any injuries.
The “Rawicz24” portal reported that poisonous smoke was moving over the city. The city's mayor, Grzegorz Kubik, appealed to residents to close their windows and not approach the fire site.
