A heavy downpour damaged the fence of a prison in Suleja, Nigeria. Over 100 prisoners escaped. So far, only 10 people have been captured.

119 inmates escaped after rain damaged the fence of a prison in the town of Suleja near Nigeria's capital on Wednesday. As prison service spokesman Adamu Duza said in a statement on Thursday, officers are trying to catch the fugitives. So far, 10 people have been caught.

No details were provided regarding the identity or affiliation of the escaped prisoners to any criminal groups. As noted by the Reuters news agency, in the past, members of the Boko Haram group were imprisoned in Suleja.

Prison escapes have become a real problem for the security services in Nigeria in recent years. They were caused by overcrowding of facilities and the lack of sufficient financial resources to ensure the “tightness” of prisons.
