Collision of a truck with a freight train carrying aggregate at an unguarded railway crossing in Piechcin (Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship). The driver was injured in the accident and was transported to the hospital in Inowrocław.
The incident took place on Monday around 3 pm on an unguarded railway crossing in Piechcin in the Żnin district. Five fire engines were dispatched to the spot.
– Shortly before 3 p.m. there was a collision at a railway crossing in Piechcin. It was a railway track located near the aggregate extraction plant – said Captain Łukasz Adamowski, press officer of the Poviat Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Żnin.
He got under the train
As he added, the truck driver, crossing the railway crossing, did not notice the approaching train. The force of the impact was so great that the vehicle was thrown several meters. Firefighters used hydraulic equipment to extricate the driver from the vehicle. They supplied him, and then handed him over to the medical rescue team that arrived at the scene – emphasized the firefighter.
It is known that the truck was not carrying any cargo, while the train was pulling 16 wagons with lime aggregate. The firefighting efforts lasted about 2.5 hours. Police officers from Znin also worked on the spot.
– A lorry entered an unguarded level crossing without giving right of way to an oncoming train. The driver was transported to the hospital in Inowrocław. Both he and the train driver were sober and had the right to drive – informed the junior aspirant Katarzyna Leszczyńska-Krawczyk from the Poviat Police Headquarters in Żnin.
