The prices of train tickets will not be at the level they are today, said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. He added that he would demand the actions of the Ministry of Infrastructure to bring about the lowest possible ticket prices.

PKP Intercity from 11 January this year. introduced new ticket prices. Base prices for single tickets in Pendolino trains increased by 17.8% on average, 17.4% on EIC trains and 11.8% on average on TLK/IC trains. The increase in ticket prices was justified by the increase electricity prices.

Prime Minister about higher prices of PKP tickets

When asked whether he would intervene to reduce the price of rail tickets after the January increase, the prime minister replied that the prices of rail tickets would not remain at the level they are today. – We are in a period of high inflation and I do not want different parts of the national economy (…) to contribute to this inflation – he said.

– I will demand from the management of the Ministry of Infrastructure decisive saving actions in all PKP companies in order to bring about the lowest ticket prices – he informed Mateusz Morawiecki.

He also added: – How much lower they will be – today I do not decide. This decision will be made after discussion with the ministry’s management.” The head of the government also announced that “in the coming days” he would talk to “the entire management” of the ministry.
