Portuguese police found drugs in the house of Infrastructure Minister Joao Galamba. The socialist politician is embroiled in a scandal, after which the Prime Minister of the government, Antonio Costa, resigned on Tuesday.
Portuguese police officers found drugs during a search at the house of Joao Galamba, the Minister of Infrastructure accused of corruption.
The scandal concerns investments in lithium mining and the production of the so-called green hydrogen and includes people from the leadership of the Socialist Party ruling the country and entrepreneurs associated with it.
Drugs in the politician’s home
The “Publico” daily, quoting investigators, specified that hashish was found in Minister Galamba’s house during the search.
Some commentators reject the politician’s explanation that the amount of the drug was small and only for personal use, pointing out that the services “confiscated” psychoactive substances.
On Friday evening, the Minister of Infrastructure announced that despite being accused by the prosecutor’s office in a corruption scandal, he did not intend to resign.
Scandal in the Costa government
Galamba’s house was one of the objects searched in connection with the scandal, in which five people from Costa’s close circle were already detained, including the head of his office. In the official’s office, the police found PLN 75.8 thousand. euros in cash.
