A Powerball lottery ticket bought in the US state of Michigan on Monday brought the lucky buyer a jackpot of $842.5 million (approximately PLN 3.3 billion).
Thus, the purchaser of the ticket won the tenth highest winnings in American games of chance. The amount grew so much because from mid-October until January 1, no one guessed the numbers correctly.
This is the first time since 1992 that the jackpot was broken on the first day of the new year, the AP reported.
Payout in two ways
The winner may request that the entire amount be paid out in one installment – but then he or she will only receive about half of the winnings. To receive the whole amount, he must decide to withdraw smaller amounts on a regular basis.
Regardless of the withdrawal method you choose, you still have to pay tax on the amount, which is at least 37 percent.
The highest Powerball winnings
The largest jackpot in Powerball history was $2.04 billion in November 2022. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9, but the odds of winning the jackpot – the main prize – are much smaller at 1 in 292.2 million.
Last year’s biggest win in Poland in the Eurojackpot megalottery it is over PLN 62.6 million. It died in May this year in Bielsko-Biała. It was the fifth largest lottery win in our country. The record remains the one from August 12, 2022 in the Krotoszyn district, in the amount of PLN 213,584,986.00.
