Cold air flows into Poland from the Arctic region. It made Thursday morning frosty in places. High pressure provides us with frosts and sunny weather. However, the weather will deteriorate.
Another night and a morning with light frost are behind us. The minimum temperature on Thursday in Szymany and Suwałki was -1 degree Celsius. In Szczecinek, Bydgoszcz and Chojnice, thermometers showed 0 degrees C. It is even colder in northern Europe, where the thermometers showed -10 degrees C.
– Frosty air is coming in strongly from the north-east, i.e. from Scandinavia. It is also frosty in our neighbors, i.e. in Belarus and partly in Ukraine. -5 degrees was recorded in Russia, and it snowed on Wednesday – said Tomasz Wasilewski, presenter of tvnmeteo.pl, in “You get up and know” on TVN24.

Arctic air rolled in
Wasilewski said that very cold air, for this time of year, flows to us from the north-east and north.
– This is well demonstrated by the backward trajectory of the air particle – noted the tvnmeteo.pl presenter. Backward trajectories are calculated based on forecasts from the previous seven days. They determine where air masses come from to a given point, in this case – Poland

From the very north, from the Arctic itself, air has flowed to us, which is now giving us this cold weather and frosts. The high will give way to the low for a while
There is a high pressure over Europe, which has three centers – one is located over Great Britain, the second over Germany, and the third over Belarus.
– The high pressure stretching over Europe is called Thomas and it makes it sunny. But at the same time he invited frosty air masses from the north to us – said Wasilewski. – In this extended high pressure it is cold, clear, and the sun is shining – he added.
There is a low over northern Scandinavia, which is slowly moving towards us. – This means that the high pressure, which provides us with great weather on Thursday, will give way to a low pressure and the associated rainfall on Friday. There will be light, passing rainfall of up to five liters of water per square meter – explained Wasilewski. – What is important, however, is that the entire zone from the north will come over Poland on Friday. It will spoil the weather and make it cloudy and rainy on Friday and partly on Saturday, he added.
However, the deterioration of the weather will not stay with us for long, because the high pressure will “revive” again on Sunday. – After a worse Friday and a slightly worse Saturday, it will be high pressure, sunny and clear again from Sunday – emphasized Wasilewski.

Frosty night
On Wednesday at 11.30 p.m., the lowest ground temperature was recorded in Jakuszyce (Lower Silesian Voivodeship). There, thermometers showed -3.2 degrees C. In Kościerzyna (Pomeranian Voivodeship), thermometers recorded -2.1 degrees C.
