The prosecutor's office has initiated an investigation into suspected crimes committed by MEP Adam Bielan and former Minister of Funds and Regional Policy Grzegorz Puda – RMF FM reported. The proceedings conducted at the request of the Supreme Audit Office concern irregularities in the National Center for Research and Development.
As RMF FM reported on Thursday, the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw initiated an investigation based on the article of the Penal Code regarding the abuse of powers and failure to fulfill duties by public officials. So far, no one has been charged.
RMF FM reminds that the auditors of the Supreme Audit Office examined the “Fast Track – Digital Innovations” competition organized by the National Center for Research and Development. After the audit, NIK prepared applications to the prosecutor's office regarding MEP Adam Bielan, former Minister of Funds and Regional Policy Grzegorz Puda, and former director of the Center Jacek Orł. This is about acting to the detriment of NCBR's interests, as well as publishing classified materials.
Szczerba: I expect very quick action
An MP from the Civic Coalition, who, together with Dariusz Joński, conducted parliamentary inspections at NCBR, recalled on Thursday in a conversation with TVN24 reporter Radomir Wit that in the United Right coalition agreement “Jarosław Kaczyński wrote that supervision over NCBR is given to the Republican Party of Adam Bielan.”
– When the gentlemen defined in this then secret annex the institutions that belong to the republicans, Adam Bielan began to act. First, there was a competition for the director of the NCBR. It was supposed to be Mr. Karol Kuch, and so it happened. The entire institution was furnished with law firms affiliated with the Republican Party, but in particular the “Fast Track – Digital Innovations” program was to be the most tasty treat – said the MP.
He added that it turned out that “in this case there was also improper supervision by the Minister of European Funds”, Grzegorz Puda.
– This is another example of the fact that Kaczyński consciously did not share the subsidy allocated from the state budget for the PiS political party with his supporters and allowed Ziobro to run wild with the Justice Fund, diverting funds to various foundations and associations, and on the other hand, he left Bielan and the NCBR Republicans to , where they simply felt like fish out of water, arranging competitions – said Szczerba.
He recalled that together with MP Joński, he managed to block PLN 350 million in this competition.
– First, we conducted a parliamentary inspection, then we applied to the Supreme Audit Office for an ad hoc inspection. Specific issues emerged from this ad hoc inspection. Now the case is in the hands of the prosecutor's office and I expect very quick action, he said.
