Three people died and six were seriously injured in a bus accident in central St. Petersburg. The vehicle collided with two cars and fell into the river. According to the media, the driver was supposed to get behind the wheel after a 20-hour shift, after a few hours of rest.

According to St. Petersburg police, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon on the bridge over the Moika River, which flows through the city. The bus driver was driving along the embankment, at one point he started driving in a zigzag direction, turned unexpectedly, collided with two cars and fell into the river.

There were 15 passengers on the bus. Three people were killed and six were seriously injured.

The first to help the injured were passengers of a passing water tram, car drivers and workers employed at a nearby construction site. They threw lifebuoys into the water, some jumped into the water – reported the independent Russian portal Meduza.

The bus driver was arrested. He is a 44-year-old man from… Tajikistan. He was supposed to get behind the wheel after a 20-hour shift, after a few hours of rest, Meduza reported.

The bus belonged to a company that, according to the press service of the city court, had been fined 23 times over the last two and a half years for running a business in gross violation of the terms of the license.
