Because of still rising food prices in Germany citizens appeal to Olaf Scholza for a government subsidy program thanks to which Germans will once again be able to afford one of their favorite delicacies. According to the Guardian, politicians have already taken up the matter. The far-left Die Linke presented a motion to parliament introduction of a price threshold.
According to the proposal, a kebab would cost EUR 4.90, and for young people with low earnings – EUR 2.90.
Dearness. Olaf Scholz explains himself
Due to numerous questions from residents, the government published a post on social media in which: explains the reasons for the price increase. German authorities point to rising wages and energy costs.
– It's quite striking that wherever I go, mainly young people ask me whether there should be a price cap on the doner, said Olaf Scholz.
He also added that it is impossible to implement price controls in a free market economy.
Germany. Big sales, huge prices
According to Die Linke, kebab is one of our neighbors' favorite and best-selling dishes. They estimate that the average sale of kebabs in this country is 1.3 billion pieces consumed per year – 400,000 of them in Berlin alone. The protesters also include Turkish immigrants who demand that the Chancellor return the old prices.
Dissatisfied consumers appear on social media references to Angela Merkel, former Chancellor of Germany. They emphasize that, as Olaf Scholz's predecessor, she was able to maintain prices.
– We were forced to price increases because of skyrocketing rent, energy and food prices – explains one of the sellers.
