Only on Friday, skiers will be able to ride from the top of Kasprowy Wierch to Kotło Gąsienicowy in Tatary – inform Polskie Koleje Linowe. The lift was supposed to be open until Sunday, but due to the weather the snow could not be kept on the route.

In the area of ​​Kotło Gąsienicowy, until Friday you will also be able to ski touring along the trail next to the route. There is between five and 79 centimeters of snow on the route, but recent sunny days have caused it to melt quickly.

The main railway to Kasprowy Wierch will still take tourists to the peak until Sunday, and from Monday until May 24 it will be closed. A spring technical inspection of devices is planned during this period. Tourists will be able to climb the peak again from May 25.

The season started early

Data from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management show that this year's April was one of the warmest in the Tatra Mountains. Typically, snow on Kasprowy Wierch lasted until mid-May and even until the beginning of June.

The record-breaking year for snowfall in the Tatra Mountains was 1995, when in mid-April there was 3.5 meters of snow on the peak. This year, the maximum snow cover on Kasprowy Wierch was 1.4 m.

The ending ski season in the Tatra Mountains started exceptionally early, because on December 6 the snow cover was thick enough for the ski lifts at Kasprowy Wierch to start operating. In previous years, the ski lifts on the Święta Góra usually opened at the beginning of January.
