The construction of tram tracks to Wilanów is entering the next stage. From February 11, the construction site will expand, which means big changes for drivers and passengers of public transport.

As announced by the city hall, soon works on the construction of a tram to Wilanów will be carried out on a longer section. This is related to the necessary reconstruction of many underground installations along the emerging line.

Ultimately, the contractor for the works, Budimex, plans to work on the entire closed section of Jana III Sobieskiego Street and Aleja Jerozolimskie between van Beethovena and Branickiego Streets. First, the reconstruction of the water supply and drainage will begin, and then preparations for the reconstruction of the heat pipelines will begin. This will involve the execution of deep excavations and their protection. The next work is the reconstruction of electrical installations. All of them have been planned for the turn of April and May.

According to officials, the time to rebuild the main pipe supplying this part of Warsaw with heat is very short. Connections can be made from June to August. Until then, the contractor must carry out the preparatory works.

There will be additional buses

The bus lane, which today runs towards the center between van Beethovena and Dolna Streets, is to be extended from February 18 to Aleja Wilanowska. During rush hours, nearly 50 WTP buses run along Jana III Sobieskiego Street towards the city center on eight lines. These vehicles are able to transport almost 6,000 passengers per hour. Thanks to the bus lane, buses will move more efficiently.

From February 13, a new connection between Wilanów and the M1 metro line will be provided by buses 217 on an extended route. They will not end the route at the loop at Sarmacka Street, only from the intersection of al. Rzeczpospolita with Branickiego Street, they will go to Płaskowicka, Cynamonowa, Ghandi to the Imielin metro station. Thanks to this, from this part of Wilanów, from one stop (at the intersection of Aleja Jerozolimskie and Al. Branickiego), it will be possible to reach the Imielin station by buses of three lines – 217, 263 and 319. During the morning rush hour, the bus will depart from it every 4-4 hours. 5 minutes and the trip to the subway will take 10-15 minutes. At Imielin, buses of these three lines will also set off towards Wilanów from a common stop.

It will still be possible to reach the Wilanowska metro station by bus line 217 – this part of the route will not change.

Buses number 522 go to the center from this part of Wilanów. During the morning rush hours, they will leave for Śródmieście every 4-5 minutes – the timetable will not change with the beginning of the winter holidays; courses on school days will be maintained.

The same will happen with the E-2 line (from the Wilanów terminus to the city center) – due to traffic restrictions on ul. Jana III Sobieski, this line will also operate during the holidays.

Lines 522 and E-2 serve articulated, 18-meter buses, and WTP tries to use longer – 12-meter vehicles for all other routes.

Due to the works, the final section of bus route 172 will also be changed. Since it will be impossible to turn from ul. Jan III Sobieski to the left – in św. Bonifacego, the buses will turn right and reach the Stegny terminus, not the Sadyba terminus.

The next stages of changes in the organization of traffic, related to the construction of the tram route to Wilanów, will begin with the beginning of the winter holidays. On February 15, at night (in favorable weather conditions), traffic will be diverted from the eastern to the western carriageway in Sobieskiego Street, from the intersection with Witosa Street to the intersection with Aleja Wilanowska. In the middle of the winter holidays (weekend of February 18-19) there will be a change in traffic on Aleja Rzeczpospolita: on the section from al. Wilanowska to Klimczaka Street from the east to the west roadway, and on the section from ul. Klimczaka to Branickiego Street – from the western roadway to the eastern roadway.

After the construction is completed in the first half of 2024, the travel time of Wilanów residents to the city center will be shortened. A tram ride from this district to the Centrum metro station will take about 25 minutes. The route to Wilanów will have two branches: along Gagarina Street and along Św. Boniface.
