After this event, soil tests began in the city on 100 hectares of land in the area at risk of discontinuous deformations – as sinkholes are called – in the shallow mining areas of the former “Siersza” mine. It is the method of liquidation of this mine that is the probable cause of the formation of sinkholes that are dangerous for the inhabitants. The results of the research are to be known in mid-February.

On Monday, the mayor of Trzebinia, JarosƂaw Okoczuk, announced on social media that, while awaiting the results of research into areas at risk of sinkholes, he started talks with other entities dealing with, among others, geophysical research.

“I want an independent entity to help us find a way to protect the area from the occurrence of further sinkholes. Neither I nor the employees of the Trzebinia City Hall are experts in this field. I want SRK SA, apart from the final results, to present strict data, which I will then pass on to independent experts for analysis, so that there are no doubts about the possible threat, “wrote Okoczuk in social media.
