Ukraine. Ihor Klymenko to replace the minister after the tragically deceased head of the Interior Ministry

The chief of the Ukrainian police, Ihor Klymenko, will be the acting interior minister, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced. The current head of this ministry, Denys Monastyrski, died in a helicopter crash that took place on Wednesday in Brovary near Kiev.

“The proposal regarding the appointment of a new head of the ministry will be presented by the government after discussions with the parliament. Ihor Klymenko retained the post of police chief,” Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on the Telegram channel.

– This is a great loss for the entire team of the Ministry of the Interior. We are all devastated,” Klymenko said after the government’s meeting, quoted by Ukrainian news agencies. He declared that together with the team he would carry out all the tasks assigned to the ministry when it was headed by Denys Monastyrski. – We will do everything to ensure that the state functions stably, so that every citizen feels safe – said Klymenko.

Klymenko, 50, is a police general. A psychologist by education. In 1994 he graduated from the Kharkiv military college, he also studied at the University of Odessa (psychology) and at the University of Dnipropetrovsk (law).

In the years 1994-1997 he served in the missile forces.

Klymenko began working at the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 1998. Until 2004, he was the head of the department at the Center for Practical Psychology of this ministry in the Kharkiv region. In 2011, he became a deputy of the control department of the Ministry of the Interior. Later, he headed the vocational training department. In March 2019, Klymenko was appointed head of the Ukrainian police.

Denys Monastyrski, died in a helicopter crashwhich took place on Wednesday in Browary near Kiev. Two of his deputies and three employees of the ministry were also killed.
