The University of Poznań boasted the oldest PhD student in the history of the Faculty of History. Ignacy Skrzypek, a well-known archaeologist and regionalist of Western Pomerania, has just defended his doctoral thesis.

According to a statement from the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań, on January 10, Ignacy Skrzypek, born in 1940, defended his doctoral thesis at the Faculty of History. At the age of 83, he was the oldest doctoral student in the history of the department.

The subject of the 83-year-old’s work was “The history of museology in Western Pomerania until 1945”. The man is an archaeologist by education and passion, and for years he was the head of the Archaeological Department of the Museum in Koszalin. In addition to archaeological research, he is interested in regional studies and the related history of Pomeranian museology.

“He is a valued and respected figure in the community of researchers of the history of Western Pomerania and local museologists” – reminds UAM. The doctoral dissertation was defended by Skrzypek without any problems. As the representatives of the University point out, the work was “the result of many years of study in this field”. The defense was chaired by prof. Przemyslaw Matusik.
