Mykola Solski, Ukrainian Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food, resigned – announced the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk. The politician is suspected in a corruption case.
“The statement (of Mykola Solski about resigning – ed.) will be considered at one of the next plenary sessions,” wrote Ruslan Stefanchuk on Facebook.
The Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food posted Solski's statement on its website: “If the Verkhovna Rada accepts my resignation, I will be grateful for such a decision, and if it decides that I should continue working, I will work.”
There is a corruption case in the background
On April 23, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) reported that Solski was suspected of illegally acquiring land worth 291 million hryvnias (approximately PLN 30 million). Moreover, he allegedly tried to illegally take over land worth UAH 190 million (approximately PLN 20 million). Solski rejected these allegations. He stated that the events mentioned by NABU took place in 2017-18, when he was a lawyer and not a minister.
