A she-bear attacked a Pennsylvania woman in her own backyard. The predator entered the property with the cubs and attacked the woman when she got too close to them. The bear’s attention was distracted by the dog, allowing the woman to escape.
On Tuesday evening, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, let her dog out in the yard. At one point, she noticed that three young black bears were sitting in a nearby tree. Following the dog, she approached them, attracting their mother’s attention.
Miraculously, she escaped with her life
– I screamed with all my might and she came at me, knocked me to the ground and bit me on the arm. I thought I was going to die, she said from the hospital bed.
The woman reported that her dog distracted the predator, allowing them both to escape. A resident of Pittsburgh reported the incident to local services and was transported to the hospital. According to doctors, she suffered serious injuries to her head, neck and arm.
– She’s very brave. “When we first saw her, she was shocked, but she handled it all very well,” said Jennifer Chen, a surgeon at Allegheny Health Network Hospital.
For safety reasons, the forest service decided to euthanize the bear. The young ones were given sedatives and then released into the wild, far from human settlements.
