A Texas police officer who fell into a hole in the road caused by rain may be very lucky. The man was taken to hospital and suffered only superficial injuries.
Police Officer William Hughes of the Robinson Department in Texas drove his car into a large pothole on Bullhide Creek Drive near Waco. The man was returning home from the night shift in the morning on Friday.
The services arrived at the scene to free the man, who was seriously injured. He was taken to hospital. He was put into a medically induced coma for a few hours, but he woke up after a few hours. After performing appropriate tests, it turned out that Hughes did not suffer any internal injuries. He only needed a few stitches on his face. He will spend a few days in the hospital.

The local fire brigade warned about the danger on the road on social media. Robinson Department Deputy Police Chief Larry Adams confirmed to local media that the hole that Hughes fell into Friday morning is the exact same one that was repaired after the previous rainfall washed out the ground on Thursday. Crews added a sheet metal culvert there and put asphalt over it.
But on Thursday night into Friday, Adams said, during severe storms, a creek beneath the road washed out the soil beneath the asphalt, causing the road to collapse again. No one knew that the hole had re-formed, so it was not sealed in any way when Hughes drove by.
