I know myself that our lives can change in an instant, and such initiatives give us hope for a better tomorrow and that we will still stand on our own feet at the starting line – said Anna Płoszyńska, who was two years ago, about the Wings for Life race the fastest in a wheelchair among women. This race, which is supposed to give financial wings to research on the treatment of spinal cord injuries, starts tomorrow. – I think this is a great thing – said Dr. Wojciech Słowiński.

The Wings for Life run will start on Sunday in Poznań. This is a global event that is intended to give financial wings to research into the treatment of spinal cord injuries. Anna Płoszyńska had an accident when she was 17 years old. She appealed to all participants in tomorrow's run “not to lose hope, because we never know what tomorrow will bring.” – I know myself that our lives can change in an instant, and such initiatives give us hope for a better tomorrow and that we will still stand on our own feet at the starting line – she said.

– Now I stand (at the finish line – ed.) on wheels, but I live with the hope that maybe one day I will be able to stand on my own feet and I wish the same to others. Our lives are very unpredictable, and medicine is advancing so much (…) that it is only a matter of time, so I keep my fingers crossed for everyone. I want no one to give up, no one to lose their life, just live one hundred percent and appreciate every moment – added the run participant.

She admitted that her goal was to run away from the finish line for 15 kilometers.

Doctor Słowiński: I think this is a great thing

Dr. Wojciech Słowiński said that such a global event is important because it gives the opportunity to publicize the topic.

– It is very important to take up the topic. First of all, publicizing the fact that people who have this type of problem simply exist and such things happen. Currently, more than 50 percent of spinal cord injuries are caused by traffic accidents. (…) Therefore, it is very important to point out that such a problem exists, that it is not only heart diseases and cancer that cause human tragedies, but this kind of things – emphasized the guest of “Fakty po Faktach”.

– The event itself gives people hope. What is very important is, above all, that people also want to be active, and that those who have this type of problem can pursue their goals. This is not only hope related to recovery, but also to the fact that they can appear in public places and take part in mass events, also dedicated to them. And if it also serves the purpose of collecting funds for precisely this type of projects, then I think it is a great thing – he added.
