Police officers from Wronki (Wielkopolskie Voivodeship) recovered several paintings that were appropriated and sold without the consent of their author. Some of the works were sold to an art gallery in Szczecin. The artist’s wife was charged in this case.

The incident happened last week. – Police officers from the Police Station in Wronki received a notification about the appropriation of paintings. Their author was the victim himself, and his wife was suspected of appropriating them, who had no right to dispose of these items – explains Sandra Chuda, the press officer of the Poviat Police Headquarters in SzamotuÅ‚y.

30 images have disappeared

At least 30 paintings worth about PLN 50,000 were allegedly looted. In addition, the woman was also to unlawfully use the man’s payment card.

– After collecting the first evidence in the case, the police detained a 42-year-old woman suspected of appropriation. The officers also detained a 43-year-old fence, at whose place of residence they secured 13 paintings from a crime. The police also determined that the man sold some of the works to an art gallery in Szczecin – explains Chuda.

Thanks to the cooperation with the local officers, it was also possible to secure the works that were located in Szczecin.

Charges against the wife and the fence

The suspects were questioned and charged. – The 43-year-old is suspected of appropriation of paintings and burglary. Such a legal qualification is adopted when someone else’s payment card is used, informs Chuda.

The proceedings in this case are pending. The court will decide on the sentence for the suspects.
