A teenager from Germany went on vacation to Italy, fell from a hotel balcony

Tragedy in South Tyrol. A 12-year-old boy who was on a school trip to San Giovanni, Italy, fell off the balcony of the hotel where the group was staying. He has been in the hospital since Sunday. He died on Tuesday. According to the preliminary findings of the police, the children were playing hide-and-seek on the day of the accident. The circumstances of the incident are being investigated by the prosecutor’s office.

The 12-year-old was part of a trip by students from a school in the German town of Wolfenbüttel. “The teachers, as every year, took the volunteers for holidays and a series of skiing lessons to San Giovanni, in the Aurina Valley in Italy” – informs the daily “Corriere della Sera”. The trip consisted of about 60 people. They all stayed in the same hotel.

He underwent surgery and died the next day

The accident happened on Sunday after breakfast together. 12-year-old Ferry fell from the balcony on the second floor (according to “Corriere” “was over four meters high”). He hit his head on the asphalt. The services were immediately called to the scene, the boy was transported by helicopter to the hospital in Bolzano.

Doctors assessed his condition as very serious. “On Monday, they performed an operation to compensate for the internal bleeding suffered by the patient,” writes the journalist of the Il Dolomiti portal.

The parents of a 12-year-old boy came to the facility from Germany and watched over his bed. Unfortunately, the damage from the fall was too severe. The boy died on Tuesday morning.

The circumstances of the incident are being investigated by the Italian services. According to the preliminary findings of the carabinieri, the fall was the result of a group of teenagers having fun. “They explained to the officers that they were playing hide and seek” – informs “Corriere”. This version was also confirmed by the hotel owner, who saw the boys chasing each other in the corridors after breakfast. Ferry was to hide on the balcony of one of the rooms and then try to get to the other by going through a wooden railing on the outside. It was then that he was about to lose his balance and fall to the ground.

After the tragic news of the teenager’s death, his colleagues were provided with psychological help. The trip was cut short and the group set off on their way back home on Tuesday. The Bolzano District Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the case.
