The 18-year-old took advantage of the driver’s inattention and stole a rented car. The police arrested him while he was driving around Gdańsk with his friends. His pupils did not respond to light, so his blood was drawn for drug testing.

The person who rented a Renault Clio for minutes in Gdańsk Wrzeszcz on Saturday left the vehicle unlocked and unattended for a moment. This was taken advantage of by a young man who simply got in and drove away in a vehicle worth PLN 70,000.

– The message about the stolen car was sent, among others, to the officers from the police station in Oliwa, who noticed the car on Opacka Street. Police officers detained the driver for inspection – says sub-inspector Magdalena Ciska from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Gdańsk.

Strange pupils

It turned out that behind the wheel of the Renault sat an 18-year-old resident of Gdańsk without a driving license, and his friends on the passenger seats: four people aged 13 to 16. – The officers established that after the 18-year-old stole the car, he went to pick up his friends and decided to take a ride through the streets of Gdańsk. Underage passengers were handed over to the care of their parents, reports subinsp. Push.

In addition, it turned out that the 18-year-old is wanted by the prosecutor’s office to determine his whereabouts. – During the intervention, the uniforms noticed the pupils of the 18-year-old, which did not react to light. Due to the suspicion that the man may be under the influence of drugs, his blood was taken at the hospital for testing, police said.

List of allegations

The 18-year-old has already been charged with car theft, which carries a sentence of up to five years in prison. In addition, if a blood test shows that the 18-year-old was driving under the influence of drugs, the police will complete the charges – for which he faces two years in prison.

Driving a motor vehicle without a license is punishable by arrest, restriction of liberty or a fine of not less than PLN 1,500. In addition, the court in any such situation may order a driving ban.
