There are no plans to reinstate the introduction of compulsory military service. But it is suspended, not liquidated. If necessary, it can be hung up – said Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on TVN24.
Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz was asked in “Piasecki's Rozmowa” whether there are plans to restore compulsory military service in Poland.
– Compulsory military service in Poland is suspended, it is not abolished, so it can be suspended at any time if necessary, he said. – We are even issuing regulations on this subject today to be prepared for any situation – he added.
He stressed, however, that “there is no plan to suspend compulsory military service, because compulsory military service is voluntary and is very popular.” – More than five thousand soldiers had entered voluntary compulsory military service by mid-March, this is an absolute record – he said.
He added that “there is also something called active reserve – 28 days of training, taking an oath.” – This is not compulsory service because it lasts much longer – he emphasized.
Kosiniak-Kamysz: we are planning voluntary courses for high school graduates
– We are also planning such courses, training and preparation for times of danger for high school graduates. After the fourth or fifth grade of secondary school, there are long holidays and we want to create, together with the Chief of the General Staff, the possibility of one- or two-month training if someone would like to have the skills to be ready, he said.
He specified that it would be optional. – But it seems to me that there will be huge interest, considering how many people want to join the army. This would, of course, also be in return for some remuneration for this time of service, he added.
