The District Prosecutor’s Office in Opoczno (Łódź) is conducting proceedings “in the direction of unintentional causing the death of a 4.5-year-old boy” from the town of Wygnanów. His siblings and mother were hospitalized, police said, “possibly food poisoning.” The autopsy performed did not determine the cause of death of the child. – Only after obtaining the results of histopathological and toxicological tests, the expert will be able to determine the cause of death – the prosecutor’s office said.
The incident took place on Wednesday (February 8) in the morning in Wygnanów. – We received a report that a 4.5-year-old boy died, unfortunately we confirmed this information. A 38-year-old woman and an eight-year-old daughter were admitted to the hospital in Opoczno. A 13-year-old boy was taken by the Polish Medical Air Rescue to the hospital in Łódź, informed Asp. pcs. Barbara Stępień from the Opoczno police.
Stępień also said that it was possible that food poisoning had occurred: – We secure various evidence, including food products. All our activities are aimed at clarifying the circumstances of the event and the cause of death of a 4.5-year-old boy, she said.

The health of the other children is good
On the same day, a spokesman for the Institute of the Polish Mother’s Memorial Hospital in Łódź informed that the 13-year-old boy who had been admitted to the facility was in good condition. The director of the hospital in Opoczno, Dagmara Junknikiel-Rosiak, in an interview with tvn24.pl, said that the condition of the eight-year-old girl is very good. On the other hand, she assessed the condition of the 38-year-old mother of children as “average”. – The woman has heart ailments, they have nothing to do with poisoning, but are caused by the stress she experienced after the death of the child – said the head of the Opoczno facility. The director added that for the time being the woman’s health condition did not allow her to be questioned by investigators. – We are in constant contact with the prosecutor’s office and the police, when the woman feels better, these activities can take place – said Dagmara Junknikiel-Rosiak.
