The expansion of the WKD railway line with a second track on the Podkowa Leśna-Grodzisk Mazowiecki section has been completed. A new train timetable on this section came into force on Saturday.
Trains on the Podkowa Leśna Główna–Grodzisk Mazowiecki Radońska route have been running without restrictions on both tracks since Saturday.
According to the spokeswoman of Marshal Adam Struzik, the frequency of trains to and from Grodzisk Mazowiecki will increase. Initially, they will run every 15-30 minutes during peak hours and every 20-40 minutes outside rush hours on weekdays. After completing the works on another section of the WKD line, in Warsaw, Grodzisk Mazowiecki will have connections every 10-20 minutes, and Milanówek every 30 minutes. The regularity and reliability of transport on the entire WKD line will also increase.
– With the dynamic development of Grodzisk Mazowiecki and neighboring towns, the construction of a second track was simply necessary to provide more and more passengers with more comfortable, efficient and faster access to the capital. The construction of the second track was a long-awaited investment, which, although carried out smoothly and according to schedule, was associated with some inconvenience for residents and passengers. However, I am convinced that this time of inevitable difficulties was worth the small sacrifices to now be able to use the modernized WKD line. Thanks to the construction of a new track and the reconstruction of the existing one, the number of connections will increase and communication will become more safe and accessible, also for disabled people – says Adam Struzik, quoted in the press release.
Investment included a thorough modernization of the existing track, which had not been comprehensively repaired for several dozen years. The work started in May 2022 was carried out in several stages. As part of the first one, a second track was built on the Podkowa Leśna Zachodnia–Grodzisk Mazowiecki Radońska route.
At the same time, the Grodzisk Mazowiecki Radońska terminus was completely rebuilt. The next stage involved the reconstruction of the old track on the Podkowa Leśna Główna – Grodzisk Mazowiecki Radońska route. The last stage included work in the fields of railway traffic control systems and telecommunications for the double-track route.
