Two Poles died in an avalanche on Wednesday afternoon in Kashmir. A mass of snow swept tourists near the popular ski resort of Gulmarg. According to the Indian police, 19 foreigners and two local guides were rescued from the element.
The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon (in Poland it was Wednesday morning) on the slopes of Mount Afarwat. A mass of snow has slid straight onto a ski slope at the popular resort of Gulmarg.
Two Polish citizens are dead
After the avalanche descended, a massive rescue operation was launched. Kashmir Police Chief Vijay Kumar said the emergency services had recovered two bodies. According to local media, citing police information, the fatalities were identified as Polish citizens.
Another 19 foreigners and two local guides were rescued during the operation, local police said on Twitter. The bodies of the Poles were taken to a local hospital for necessary medical procedures.
The avalanche hit Gulmarg after heavy snowfall on the slopes of the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir for several days.
