An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 hit the Tanimbar Islands, an archipelago located in Indonesia, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center said.
The earthquake was recorded on Monday evening Polish time in the Tanimbar Islands. According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center, it had a magnitude of 7.7. The hypocenter was at a depth of 97 kilometers.
The Tanimbar Islands are an archipelago located in Indonesia, in a very seismically active region. They are located between the Banda and Arafura seas. Their area is about 5,625 square kilometers.
Pacific Ring of Fire
Indonesia is located in an extremely seismically active area – in the region of the Pacific Ring of Fire. About seven thousand tremors are recorded annually in this country, although the vast majority of them are weak and do not cause serious damage.
