Inowroclaw. The new fire ladder broke and fell to the ground. Fire department: it was a test, no one was hurt

The incident took place at the District Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Inowrocław, where exercises and tests of the newly purchased fire-fighting ladder took place.

– I can confirm the fact that such an event took place. It was during exercises with this ladder – the press officer of the Poviat Commander of the State Fire Service in Inowrocław, Captain Jarosław Skotnicki, told us.

In an interview with PAP, he added: – Operators were trained. The event is so sad that it was practically new equipment. Officially, the ladder was handed over to us last Friday. At that time, there was a solemn handover of three vehicles – including this ladder.

In practice, the ladder has been tested for several weeks. A set consisting of a ladder and a basket has failed.

– For unknown reasons, the ladder failed, as a result of which one of the spans broke. No one was on this ladder and no one was hurt, Skotnicki reported.

The damaged equipment was worth nearly PLN 3.2 million. It was certified rescue equipment.

Why the ladder broke will be explained by a specially appointed team on behalf of the Provincial Fire Brigade Headquarters in Toruń and the National Headquarters of the State Fire Service.

“The tests were carried out according to the standard procedure recommended by the manufacturer before the new car was put into use in rescue and firefighting operations,” the fire department said in a release. As added, the chief commander of the State Fire Service “ordered the immediate withdrawal from use” of vehicles with a mechanical ladder 40 meters high and more, manufactured by the manufacturer whose ladder failed during exercises in Inowrocław.
