The punishment imposed on the 60-year-old man was announced on Thursday on the website of the Florence authorities. For years, explained the city management, a local driver had been receiving tickets for parking his car in a restricted traffic zone, at a pedestrian crossing, on the sidewalk and at an intersection, for driving in the emergency vehicle lane and for excessive speed. The total fines exceeded EUR 30,000, to which should be added penal interest for failure to pay them.

The decision to confiscate was made in November

The local office collecting overdue fees decided in November last year to confiscate the debtor's car and informed him about it. However, the driver continued to drive it. When he was stopped for a routine check, during data verification it turned out that the vehicle had been formally seized. Now the latest generation SUV worth EUR 50,000 has been definitely confiscated. Its owner received the 176th fine of almost EUR 2,000 for driving a confiscated car.
