At the turn of April and May, LOT Polish Airlines is to receive the first of 11 ordered Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Two more machines are to be delivered to the company during the holiday season. This information was provided by the president of PLL LOT, Michał Fijoł.

LOT currently has 11 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. It is a twin-engine, narrow-body jet aircraft produced by the American concern The Boeing Company. The plane can take 186 passengers on board. In February this year Fijoł announced that the company has ordered another 11 of these machines, which LOT is to receive by the end of the first half of 2025.

The president of LOT about new Boeings

– The first three will appear in the LOT fleet this year. The first one at the turn of April and May. The remaining two during the holiday period, the president of the national carrier told journalists in Croatia. He added that the carrier is “in constant contact with Boeing.” – The delivery of another eight MAXs seems to be unthreatened at the moment. Although delays cannot be ruled out here. Boeing has its own problems regarding the volume of deliveries and orders fulfilled. Hence, we have to adapt our plans to delivery dates – said Fijoł.

He noted that the company is working on fleet orders that may have a “significant” impact on the number of passengers transported.

Airplanes for regional connections

Fijoł was also asked about the request for proposals regarding the acquisition of over 80 new aircraft for regional connections. He said it was sent to Embraer and Airbus. Ultimately, which of these manufacturers will provide the carrier with planes will be known by the end of the year, according to the president. – I think we should have information on this by the end of the year – he said.

The Ministry of State Assets in March this year. informedthat LOT is to send requests for proposals regarding the “acquisition” of 84 regional aircraft. As it was noted then, the company is to make a strategic decision whether to continue cooperation in this segment with the current machine supplier – Embraer, or with Airbus.

On long-haul routes, LOT Polish Airlines flies directly to ports in the United States, Canada, China, Japan and South Korea. These connections are operated by Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The latest available data from the Civil Aviation Office shows that the most popular airline in Poland is Ryanair. The data only concerns passengers served at Polish airports in international regular traffic. In 2023, over 15.1 million passengers of the Irish carrier were served at domestic airports. According to ULC data, Hungarian Wizz Air took second place – over 10.5 million passengers.

The main shareholder of PLL LOT is the State Treasury, which has 69.30 percent. shares in the company. The second shareholder (30.7%) is Polska Grupa Lotnicza (PGL), wholly owned by to the State Treasury.
