At the beginning of 2023, North Macedonia took over the twelve-month presidency of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. The head of the country’s foreign ministry, Bujar Osmani, became the chairman of the organization. In 2022, the OSCE presidency was held by Poland.
North Macedonia took over the presidency of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe on Sunday (OSCE) in 2023. The country’s foreign minister, Bujar Osmani, became the chairman of the OSCE, and he identified the restoration of mutual trust and the need to resume dialogue on security issues as the main tasks for the current year.
Osmani: the war in Ukraine violates the foundations of the OSCE
Osmani believes that special attention should be paid to the Russian invasion of Ukrainebecause “this war violates the fundamentals of the OSCE” and is far from the principles that OSCE member states should be guided by.
On economic and environmental issues, the North Macedonian Presidency wants to focus on raising awareness that there is a link between climate change and security. Action for energy and food security will also be important. Protection will also be a priority for the authorities in Skopje human rights.
In 2022, the presidency of the OSCE was held by Poland, which symbolically transferred it to North Macedonia for OSCE summit in Łódź in early December.
